Staff working with Southbound Adventures come from a variety of backgrounds and experience.
One thing, however, they all have in common is a strong commitment to outdoor education and
the benefits that it provides to its participants.
All are outgoing, fun loving and enjoy mixing with
the students that have been assigned to their care and guidance.
If we can provide a typical profile, you would expect a staff member to
be in their mid twenties, actively involved in outdoor activities, such
as canoeing, climbing, bike riding or bush walking. They will have a
very strong commitment to the sustainable management of the outdoor
environment. Most will have completed tertiary qualifications in the
area of outdoor education and recreation. For those not having those
more formal qualifications, there will be a wealth of practical
experience in dealing with people and groups in an outdoor environment.
During all programs there is an
experienced staff team supporting those in the field. Their
responsibilities ensure that is continuous monitoring of all aspects of
the program, and at any given time can quickly respond to any changing circumstances.
Wilderness group leaders are required to have completed and passed the
Leaders Wilderness First Aid Course. This course requires annual
reassesment. Canoe instructors must have as a minimum the Basic Skills
Instructor Award as approved by NSW Canoe Board or equivalent. As there
are no industry-recognised standard qualifications, our specialist
climbing, caving or mountain bike instructors all must have a proven
and verifiable record of participation and instruction in their area of
expertise.
We have a mix of female and male staff,
and quite often have staff from overseas joining our team. So expect to
be taught, entertained, guided and supported by an enthusiastic and
committed outdoor educator.
