Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme aims to introduce young people to leisure activities,
and provide a challenge to the individual.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme aims to introduce young people to leisure activities, and provide a challenge to the individual. The scheme is divided into four main sections at each award level; Bronze, Silver and Gold.

These four main sections are:
1. Service
2. Expedition
3. Skills
4. Physical Recreation

Southbound Adventures is concerned with the expedition section of the award only.  Expeditions offered by Southbound Adventures meet the requirements of Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expeditions. p8030092.jpg

The guidelines for the Award state "The Expedition section represents an exciting challenge to participants to undertake a venture with a specific purpose in an unfamiliar environment".

We take the participants through from the very basic skills necessary to undertake their expeditions to a point where they can plan and complete a journey entirely on their own, while under the supervision of Southbound Adventures staff.  At each level, bronze, silver and gold the level of challenge increases and our participation varies to suit those changes.  We will supervise their activities, however in the spirit of the Award we do not conduct or actively direct each expedition.  Our assessors will provide continuous feedback during the program, making constructive comment on each participant’s progress.

By selecting Southbound Adventures to conduct this component of the Award, parents and school staff can be assured that while the students will be fully involved in all aspects of the program there will always bep8090045.jpg an experienced "eye" keeping a close watch on their activities.

Students can either elect to canoe, hike or mountain bike during their expeditions. We conduct the trips in the following areas:

Hawkesbury River -Wisemans Ferry to Berowra
The Myall Lakes
Royal National Park
Morton National Park - Kangaroo River
Tasmania - Overland Track
New Zealand - Abel Tasman National Park

Teamwork, self-reliance, determination and cooperation are the hallmarks of each successful participant in this magnificent Award Scheme.

A minimum of 10 students per group is required for any particular trip.  Please note we are not able to take on individual students.
